Results of the Australia Iaido and Jodo Championships 2011

Hi All,

Just a quick update on the Iaido and Jodo Championships for 2011

The event was very successful and all TJK members attending seemed to enjoy the event.

First of all thank you to all of those who helped out. It was noted by the sensei the relatively small group of people who showed the correct attitude in regards to training and helping out and TJK was singled out for this. So thank you very much for making me and TJK look good.

Mark Gasz and Dominik where both successfully graded in Jodo. Shodan and Sandan respectively and this is a great result.

While the club does not focus on competition perse the standard we set has allowed a number of members to do very well in competition.Mark Gasz was in the winning Kyu grade Jodo pairs competition and Steve Giffin took out the Shodan individual competition and was a member of the team that won the Iaido Teams competition. Well done to you both.

An honourable mention (or dishonourable depending on your view point) goes to Brendon Frost of North Balwyn Iaido club. Brendon forgot his NBI zekken on the day and had his old one from TJK in his bag which he wore for the Yondan Individual competition which he then won. Sorry Brendon but we are taking credit for this one as well : ). In all seriousness well done to Brendon, being an instructor and keeping up this standard of Iaido as well is very difficult.

I am hoping the club can use the success of this event to springboard this year. If so this will be a very successful year. Oda Sensei and Nagayama Sensei are both confirmed to come out this year. We have a number of other seminars planned for the year.

Hope to see you all at training in the near future.

Regards

Anthony Pickering.
